Weakness is Strength - Day 176 Month 6-25 Week 26-1
Today's Reading (Bible in 1 year)
Judges 14-15, Psalm 142, Jeremiah 49:23-39, Acts 11:19-30
Weakness is Strength
The physically strongest person can still be weak. Yet God can use both our strengths and our weaknesses for His purposes.
As we read about Samson in Judges 14 and 15, we see a man with extraordinary physical strength. He killed a lion with his bare hands. God made him physically strong, but God also knew his weaknesses. Samson was weak when he chose a Philistine woman as his wife. He was weak when he gave in to his wife's pressure and revealed the answer to his riddle. He was weak when he hid from the Philistines in the cleft of a rock. Yet God still used him.
God used Samson despite his weaknesses and worked through him in powerful ways. Samson killed thirty men after his wife and her father were being threatened over the riddle. He later "struck them with a great slaughter" after the Philistines burned his wife and her father. He allowed the men of Judah to bind him with new ropes, only to break free when he was brought before the Philistines and then kill a thousand men with the fresh jawbone of a donkey.
We all have strengths and weaknesses. Often, we assume God will use our strengths for His glory, but sometimes He chooses to work through our weaknesses as well.
Throughout my career, God used my strengths in sound, lighting, video, and stage production. Over the years, I had the privilege of supporting between 1,500 and 2,000 church services and events that helped point people toward Jesus. That was a skillset where I felt confident and capable. Writing, however, has never been one of my strengths. Yet here I am, writing this blog. If you asked people who know me well, I doubt many would have described me as a writer. Before this blog, my writing experience consisted of a short newsletter article and creating PowerPoint announcements for church services. That was the extent of it.
Just as God used both the strengths and weaknesses of Samson, He uses both my strengths and my weaknesses. The same is true for you. God is not limited by what you see as your shortcomings. If you are willing to let Him, He can use every part of your life to accomplish His purposes.
Sometimes our greatest weakness becomes the very place where God's strength is most clearly seen.
Have a great day!
Steve
