As soon as I started reading Psalm 137 I could hear “Boney M” singing “By the Rivers of Babylon” that was released in 1978. (Chorus) By the rivers of Babylon There we sat down Yeah, we wept When we remembered Zion There we sat down Yeah, we wept When we remembered Zion The people of Israel, who had been taken into captivity, were asked by their captors to sing one of their songs. Their song became part of their grieving process. The Babylonians had forcibly removed them from their homeland and from Jerusalem, where the temple stood.
