Joshua 14:1-15:20, Psalm 121, Jeremiah 35, John 19:1-30
Help Is On The Way
“From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD.”
Are you struggling today? Is your heart heavy? Is something not quite right? Are you facing health problems? Are you facing financial difficulty? The Psalmist has an answer. “My help comes from the LORD who made heaven and earth.” “He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will … neither slumber nor sleep.”
“ The LORD (I AM):
Is your keeper (constant protector and guardian)
Is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night (God’s sheltering presence at all times)
Will protect you from all evil (God’s unwavering protections)
Will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever. (guards lives, actions and souls both now and forever)”
Life will still have its ups and downs but you are not on your own if your focus is on Jesus. I read a sign in front of a church just yesterday that said, “If God is your co-pilot, switch seats.” That is the key. All of these promises above are true when you are giving God the control.
I wonder if you may be like me in this way. I give the control to God and then on the next happening in my life I take the controls back. After a while, I realize that I have taken the controls back and I repent (turn back to Jesus) until the next event and the cycle goes on. However, the more time that I invest in my relationship with Jesus, the less often the cycle happens and slowly I move towards full dependance on God. I suspect I will never be 100% because I’m human but it’s something to strive towards. The huge bonus of being a Jesus follower is the Holy Spirit lives in me. He prays for me even when I don’t know what to pray about or when I am unable, and He constantly pulls my heart back to Jesus when I stray.
To get to this point though, it requires reliance on Jesus. That same Jesus we are reading about today died an incredibly painful death for this world. Thank goodness in tomorrows’ reading we get to read about Jesus' resurrection. Jesus took the pre-planned death and resurrection that we are reading about because I(You), can never be the 100% I talked about in our previous paragraph. I am imperfect by nature where Jesus was born into the same world of sin, defeated sin and death as the perfect sacrifice.
If your reliance is on Jesus, then the promises spoken above are realized. No matter what life throws at you, the truth of God’s presence is there through Jesus and you will experience that:
He is your constant protector and guardian,
He’s your sheltering presence at all times
He guides your actions, your spirit and soul, now and forever.
You just need to put your faith in Him to realize all this.
Have a great day!
Steve
