Water In, Water Out
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.” These are the words of Jesus. His next words were “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, “From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.”” As I read this I realized it was about transformed lives. Believing (having faith) in Jesus is life transformation.
Last evening, after a very long day, Syl and I sat down and watched the movie, Big George Foreman. It was a very informative movie. It showed a couple of very dramatic spiritual moments in his life. One was when his sister was having a child and it seemed she may die because she was losing a lot of blood and there was nothing that the physicians could do. George, in desperation, realizing his money and fame could not save his sister’s unborn baby or her, cried out to God and offered his life in exchange. His sister and the baby miraculously lived. Then in 1977, he had passed out in the changeroom after losing a fight and had a “near death” experience where he cried out to God and shouted “I believe” as he came to and was revived. George had a life transformation. He retired from boxing and eventually became an ordained minister. When he returned to the ring ten years later, he was a different boxer. His motive was to raise funds for his ministries. His financial advisor mishandled his earlier finances, leaving him completely broke. He no longer fought in rage but rather fought using his mind. That is an example of life transformation. He had a messed up early life due to anger issues prior to his life in Christ, but God used his new life to draw people to Jesus as his heart was transformed. His life was flowing with living water.
Jesus specializes in transforming people for good. It doesn’t matter how messed up your life may be, he can transform it so that your life also flows with living water. Just to be clear, transformation takes time and sometimes we can fall back into some old ways. George Foreman was married once before he became a Jesus follower, and 3 times after he became a Jesus follower, before he met his wife Mary who he was married to for 40 years.
If you are thirsty, come to Jesus and drink. If you are a Jesus follower, but your focus has moved away from Jesus, come back to Jesus and drink. If you are a Jesus follower wondering why you don’t feel like living water is flowing out of your innermost being, ask God to renew you with His living water. I’m asking Jesus to renew me with His living water today!
Have a great day.
Steve
