Under Our Noses

What are you in search of?  Is it a relationship?  Is it financial freedom? Is it better health?  Is it longevity?  Is it purpose or eternal life?

The Jews, In John 5 were wanting to kill Jesus but Jesus continued with His teaching.  He pointed out that they  “search the scriptures because you (they) think that in them you (they) have eternal life.”  Then He explained the scriptures pointed to Him (Jesus) but they were unwilling to come to Jesus who would give eternal life.  He was right there, under their noses.

Sometimes, answers to many of our life dilemmas are right in front of us but we prefer a different answer.  When I was talking about replacing my truck, it was sitting right there but my preference was a new truck so I assumed it would be too expensive to repair my old one.   When I was referred to a different repair shop I felt a sense of direction as if God was telling me what I needed to do.  As a Jesus follower, we call this “conviction.”  My want was a new (to me) truck but my need was a truck that was right under my nose.

Last year, Sylvia and I were both considering some space issues we have.  I needed a better workshop because the current one was too small and non functional.  Sylvia had been asking about a greenhouse since we arrived here.  I had designed the most amazing workshop on my CAD program and Sylvia suggested we start to build a greenhouse from old wood we had around the yard and to collect windows.  Up until this year, we had 2 yard cleanup days per year where we could put anything out for garbage pickup (within reason) and it would be collected the week of our regular trash day.  It created an opportunity to recycle because everyone, including us, needed things.  We got 5 commercial glass fridge/freezer doors while we drove around.  I told a friend at work that we were building a greenhouse and were collecting windows and glass for the greenhouse.  He said to me, I’ve got 3 functional windows that we took out of our house that you can have.  That gave us everything we needed for the greenhouse… except the wood.  It turns out we did not have enough wood in the yard to build it.  Sylvia suggested maybe we could retrofit the barn.  Sure enough, the barn would accommodate a greenhouse space but also could cover my need for a functional workshop and we were able to add in a bonus “she shed” on the second level of the barn.  It was there under our noses.

Sometimes, if we are willing to look, solutions are right there.  If deep down, we want what God wants, and we are willing to see, God shows what He’s already provided.

Asking again, what are you in search of?  Is it a relationship?  Is it financial freedom? Is it better health?  Is it longevity or purpose?  Is it eternal life?  The answer is right there.  Just not in the way we thought.  Jesus offers us a personal relationship with the God of all creation.  Jesus offers us satisfaction with what we have.  Jesus offers us a different outlook in poor health, and maybe even healing.  Now if it’s longevity or eternal life, you're pursuing Jesus.  He’s right there - under your nose!

Have a great day
