Look to the Light - Day 145 Month 5-25 Week 21-5
Today's Reading (Bible in 1 year)
Deuteronomy 34, Psalm 117,118, Jeremiah 28, John 12:27-50
Look to the Light
“This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24)”. This is a verse that is quoted often and it’s true. Every day is a day the LORD has made so we should rejoice and be glad in it, no matter the circumstances. Every day is different and every day has some good in it if we are willing to see it.
However, if we read the verses before, that it is referring to, it’s like adding nitrous oxide to a car in a drag race. It’s an immediate boost. Jesus described Himself as the stone which the builders rejected becoming the cornerstone. (Definition of cornerstone: it’s the first stone set in the construction of a masonry foundation, essential for aligning and supporting a building. Metaphorically, it refers to a fundamental and indispensable part of something, such as a core belief or element or founding principle). That great day referred to in verse 24 is the great day when Jesus made the once and for all sacrifice that made it possible for us all to be realigned with God our creator and forgiven of our resistance and disobedience against Him. This is why we can celebrate Easter Sunday. This is why we should be thrilled about each day. No matter how dim and dreary a day may be, or difficult our outlook is, we can be thankful that Jesus made that sacrifice for each and every one of us.
In John 12:47, Jesus says that He did not come to judge the world but to save the world but He did not say the world would not be judged. He said the world would be judged on the words He spoke, which are the words of the Father.
Jesus came as “Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me (Him) will not remain in darkness (sin nature we all are born with) (John 12:46).” You may not recognize each day as a day of rejoicing and gladness because you may still be in darkness. If that is the case, look to the light (Jesus) and He will turn your days into gladness and joy deeper than surface happiness or joy dependent upon something temporary.
Now, in a moment of honesty here, I don’t wake up every day and look out and look up and say “This is a day of rejoicing and I will be glad.” That’s because my attitude may be off or I’m not recognizing what a great gift I hold. I need to make a choice to focus on what a blessing it is to breathe, see, hear, smell, touch, taste and even more, that I know Jesus personally. I am going to make a concerted effort from now on to wake up each day and focus immediately on the incredible life God is giving me (like Syl instinctively does due to who God made her as a lover of nature). A preacher I was listening to, was preaching one day on how he wakes up. He spends the first waking moments of each day to just meditate on Jesus. He breaths in deeply and breathes out the name of Jesus, over and over again. Now I fear I may wake Sylvia if I do that but I may do it under my breath so I can start my day right.
Choose Jesus every morning. Wake up and say, “This is the day which the LORD has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Have a great day!
Steve
