Why Do They Prosper - Day 117 Month 4-27 Week 17-5
Today's Reading (Bible in 1 year)
Numbers 33, Psalm 94, Jeremiah 11:18-12:6, Luke 22:14-38
Why Do They Prosper?
Why do the wicked prosper? Jeremiah's actual questions are, “Why has the way of the wicked prospered? Why are all those who deal in treachery at ease?” and an observation that, “You are near to their lips but far from their mind.” I suspect after reading these questions and observation you also have people who come to mind.
We have great internet here in my area of Nova Scotia. Up until a month ago, we only had one option for the provider but it was fibre internet right to our house. It is lightning fast…except when it’s not working! It goes down when you are just to the point of dependency…then it’s out. It seldom is related to weather but is more often related to those who are looking to profit from cable theft. The funny thing is; it has no value for scavenging copper. It’s fibre cable! My nephew owned a house that he was fixing up in New Brunswick and had to leave the province for a while. When he came back, the house had been stripped of all the copper electrical cable. So we ask the question again: “Why are all those who deal in treachery at ease?
We were all born with a sinful nature which means this world is full of those who do not have any interest in God’s will. I suspect the more prideful or greedy a person is, determines how “wicked” they are but as humans, at one point or another we all are generally out for ourselves! Those of us who have become Jesus Followers often deal with the same errant drive to put ourselves first. This is why, I for one, get up every morning and spend time reading the Bible, praying and writing down what I’m learning. It’s one way I can make sure I’ve put God before myself.
I believe beyond doubt that the more I represent Jesus, the more I will experience the “wicked” who will oppose me. We must be aware that I, just as all Jesus followers, represent Jesus, and there is an ever presence of Satan in the world. Satan will do whatever he can to create difficulty for those who represent his only real opponent, Jesus.
Jesus reminded the disciples how He sent them out without a money belt, bag or sandals and how they lacked nothing. Then He says “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.” The “sword” caught me off guard but then they said, we have 2 and he said, “it is enough!” You see Jesus was not trying to tell them to turn to violence, but to tell them they would face much opposition. They would need to be prepared! I need to be prepared! How can I be prepared? In Matthew 10:16 Jesus says “I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.” It’s a rough world, so be smart with practical intelligence and good judgement, yet loving and caring.
I want to mention just before I sign off, that there are some genuinely wonderful people. They only lack one thing: Jesus! For those folks I say take the gift of residence in God’s kingdom today. If you don’t think you would classify as “genuinely wonderful,” you can also take that gift today. It’s yours for the taking. If you don’t know how? Ask me. My email is below.
Have a great day!
Steve
