Tired

1. In numbers 11, Moses is tired, burned out and depressed.  You can see this as Moses says to the LORD:

  • “You have laid the burden of all this people on me”

  • “I alone am not able to carry all this people because it is too burdensome for me”

  • “If You are going to deal thus with me, please kill me at once…..”

God provides a solution by telling Moses to choose 70 elders who He gives the Holy Spirit to and then they prophecy.  As you’ve read, most stop prophesying except for two who continue to prophecy.  Moses’ assistant Joshua asks Moses to restrain the two who continued to prophecy but Moses instead asks “Are you jealous for My sake?  I would that all the LORD’s people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!”

Moses shows one of the signs of a great leader.  It’s a leader who allows other leaders to share the burden.  Have you ever heard of a micro-manager?  I have known some in my life and those who are micro-managers generally do not have much of a life outside of what they are managing.  A good leader is someone who builds up others to share the load.  Skilled leaders that are jealous of those around them, only hurt themselves.  I’ve been a manager for more than half of my career and one motto that I have is to recognize, train and empower my staff.  It doesn’t make me any less of a leader but it means that if anything happens to me, I have prepared others to step in.  What that does is limit the chance of being tired, burned out and depressed.

2. In Luke 11:14-26 Jesus responds to the Pharisees' statement that “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.”  Jesus has a great response.  He says “If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?” and then He says, “but if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.”  He’s basically saying if Jesus is not casting out demons by Satan’s power then He must be from God.  What an incredible dilemma for the religious leaders.   You see, if Jesus is from God, then Jesus must be who He says He is.  Since the religious leaders do not accept who Jesus says He is, then what conclusion can they take?  Jesus then spells it out in verse 23 with “He who is not with Me is against Me; and he who does not gather with Me scatters.”  So the religious leaders who were saying Jesus represented Beelzebul (Satan) now must recognize that Jesus is suggesting that if they are not with Jesus they are not representing God.

There is a lesson for us in this:  you must accept Jesus as who He says He is, otherwise you do not believe in the God of Christianity.  If someone says “in God we trust” but does not adhere to Jesus' message of loving God with all their hearts, soul, mind and strength, and loving their neighbours, then they do not know God or are  creating God in their own human imagination.

Have a great Day
