A Different Type of Alive
“Why are you looking for the living among the dead?” That’s what the angels said when the women brought burial spices to Jesus’ grave.
Peter got it! When he found out, he ran to the tomb and recognizing Jesus was not there, went to his home “marvelling at what had happened.” That’s Peter; the one who denied Jesus 2 days earlier, recognizing Jesus was true to His word and was alive once more. Peter was always the first to open his mouth but this time, he simply marvelled.
In many ways we can say a person lost in their own independence away from God is dead. Let me explain. If Jesus’ resurrection represents life to all humankind, then not responding to Jesus pulling at our hearts would represent death. You see, when we take it back to basic principles of living, there is just life and death.
In our world today people pursue life. I pursue life. I’m someone who has a lot of ideas. I can be a dreamer. I dream of having an excavator to dig a pond on my property. I dream of having a small bunkie over the ridge of our property that we can use or rent out. I dream of travelling and going to places that I’ve never visited. However, that's all about my earthly dreams. Those dreams have not been fulfilled and may never be. Life keeps moving towards my earthly death. I used to be able to work at twice the speed I do now but I’m getting older. As average life spans work out, I’ve maybe got 15 years left (Average life span for a man in Canada is 79.5-80.5 years). As my life on earth slowly winds down, my personal dreams become less important. However, I’ve also got important dreams like God using Syl and I to make an impact where we live in a positive, life giving, way. To point people to the giver of life - Jesus! You see, I may have 15 years left, maybe more, maybe less, but the whole point of my earthly life is honouring God in all I say and do, and helping others to know Him and join me in my un-ending life beyond the grave. That’s my hope for everyone who I come into contact with.
It comes down to this. The Giver of life is not going to force anyone to accept His gift of life. The invitation is open to anyone and everyone. I encourage you: choose life!
As I often mention in this blog, if you have questions or want to know how to choose life, I’d love to hear from you. My email is below or you can comment on the blog.
Have a great day!
