Justice Will Come

I wake up every morning and read the current news.  Apparently, every evening, before I go to sleep, I read the current news.  It usually doesn’t change much in 8 hours.  Wars, Political unrest, price of oil because of the wars and sometimes my favorite baseball team wins, sometimes they lose.  In Genesis 1:28 God gives humankind direction: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth”

Well haven’t us humans done a great job!  We’re doing pretty good at subduing it but I don’t think God asked us to create a climate change problem and I am certain He did not tell humankind to have ongoing wars though some were bound to happen.  Humankind is flawed due to our disobedience (thanks to Adam and Eve…notice I’m not just saying Eve).

In Isaiah 59 we read of Israel’s moral collapse where truth and justice are absent.  Starting in verse 15-16 (NIV) Isaiah explains:  “Now the LORD saw, and it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice.  And He saw that there was no one, and was appalled that there was no one to intercede.”  God brings justice Himself in this case.

As I turn back to the news of the day, a couple of today’s headlines are:

  • Trump threatens to “blow up” all of Iran’s South Pars gasfield if Tehran strikes Qatar

  • Ukraine starts building gas reserves for winter as Russian strikes hurt output

I wonder at what point God will see that there is “no justice”  and there is no “no one to intercede.”  We all know God allows some people to be leaders in this world.  God did give humankind the ability to “subdue” the earth but at some point God has to have had enough.

The other day we were visiting a friend that lives near us.  While we were there enjoying a coffee, she was telling us about her childhood and how her dad, who was “the parent in charge of fun” was also a “loud, gregarious, passionate” man.  “His temper was like quicksilver - fast, blinding, and spectacular,” “never physical”.   Apparently, it took very little for him to lose it.  She described it in the same way many of my friends growing up would describe their families.  It was a different time, a different way to parent.  Our friend told us it would not happen with her mom.  Her dad would never yell at her mom but apparently her mom would act in worse ways than the kids would, yet only the kids were yelled at.  When they’d be driving, her mother would be suggesting alternative driving practices. The father would get to a point where he would quietly say “Now, (her name)”  and her mom would let it go.

At some time, we know God will say “Now...” and His kingdom will come.  It will be a “New Earth.”  The earth will once again be the way it was meant to be.  How awesome is that?

Have a great day!
