Filled With Goodness
1. We read in Psalm 65. In the last few days, I talked about how great and awesome God is. David speaks to God’s greatness in the Psalm. Some of his statements that stick out to me are:
You visit the earth and cause it to overflow
You greatly enrich it
The stream of God is full of water
The hills gird themselves with rejoicing
The meadows are clothed with flocks
The valleys are covered with grain
If these represent God’s goodness to the earth, let’s look at it through spiritual eyes and think about the reality of God’s “Kingdom.” If you think about what brings you greatest joy, that’s what God’s kingdom is like. There are those who may be willing to destroy the earth, but they will not be able to destroy the Kingdom of God.
2. A number of years ago, when Sylvia and I lived in Beaverton, Ontario, I would often take a different route home from work just to break up the monotony. It was approximately a 1-½ hour drive and it was always enjoyable to experience some of the country road alternatives to get home. There was a property that I would often pass on one of the country roads. There was a sign out front that said, “The Magnificat.” Whenever I would pass the sign, my imagination had a picture of a cat that could do tricks and maybe it was some sort of circus. The whole title was Regina Mundi Home of the Magnificat. I did not realize at the time that Mary’s prayer is called the Magnificat. The location I’d pass is a Roman Catholic Retreat centre. Realizing what it really was took the fun out of the circus idea but I know now what the Magnificat is.
Mary is overwhelmed with God’s love for her and for the privilege of bearing God’s Son. She is aware that generations will count her blessed; God has done great things for her. A couple of quotes from Mary in her prayer are:
His Mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him
He has filled the Hungry with Good things
In Isaiah 55:4,5 Isaiah prophecies about Jesus,
“I will make an everlasting covenant with you according to the faithful mercies shown to David”
“Behold, I have made Him a witness to the peoples, A leader and commander for the peoples”
Mary was chosen to be the person who would bring Jesus into the world. What an amazing gift for Mary. More than that, we just read of Jesus' death and resurrection in Mark and now we are reading about Jesus' birth again. Mary’s child would be the one that would reveal the new covenant and fulfill all those laws that we are reading about in Leviticus.
What a great God. “I AM” really loves us!
Have a great day!
Steve
