A World Renewed

The year of jubilee was kind of a reset.  Every 50 years, the Israelites had a law that they would follow and celebrate.  If the “year of Jubilee” was still followed, the next one would be October 12, 2035 sunset to October 1, 2036 at sunset.  The jubilee included:

  • Restoration of Property: Leased or mortgaged land returned to its ancestral owner.

  • Release of Debtors: All Hebrew indentured servants were freed, and debts were cancelled.

  • Rest for the Land: No sowing, reaping, or harvesting was permitted, similar to the 7th-year Sabbatical.

I think the world needs a jubilee.  Imagine a world jubilee where countries go back to their historical separation (don’t ask me at what point in time we’re talking, it’s imagination).  All classes of people are released from their inequalities and free to live without debt.  It’s a year when the land rests.  No food harvesting is required, no tree cutting is allowed for firewood, lumber or pulp and the paper industry.  All of those items have easily been harvested years earlier because of God’s blessing in preparation for the year of jubilee.  There are parties, festivals, and celebrations everywhere.  It seems like the year of jubilee is an equalizer.  The banks would take a profit hit (I think most people who carry debt would appreciate that), the rich aren’t quite as rich but the poor have all they need plus freedom.

As I was reading our Psalms selection today, I realized it was prophetic.  Yesterday, I passed over the last line of Psalm 69:21 “and for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink”  and I realized suddenly, it was referring to Jesus on the cross and how they offered him vinegar when he was thirsty.  Then I looked at Psalm 69:35-36 where it said “ For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, That they may dwell there and possess it.  The descendants of His servants will inherit it, and those who love His name will dwell in it.”

I continued to read Isaiah 60 and realized it’s also prophetic.  “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.  For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; but the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you.  Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.”

When the Kingdom of God returns to this earth, the sun will be replaced by the glory of Jesus!  The world will be in its permanent jubilee.  Very simply, wealth and power is no longer of any significance.  The creator of the world is present amongst us, in person, and it becomes all about Him and not so much about us.  I’m just now imagining a world, renewed to perfection:  all these wars right now - gone,  oil crisis - gone, poverty - gone  world leaders and powers - One world leader and power who is the Righteous one, perfect in every way, except for the scars that purchased our freedom.

Who is this righteous one?  It’s Jesus, the one I can't stop talking about.  This is Jesus who heals the sick and casts out demons in Luke 4:39-41, is here to preach the Kingdom of God, His kingdom, in Luke 4:43 and overfills the fishermen's nets in Luke 5:1-11.  Today, Jesus is ready to welcome anyone who will say yes, into His kingdom where He will fill your heart to overflowing with joy.  A lot of the “stuff” we deal with may remain but our outlook on life will change when we know we are part of a kingdom of plenty that fulfills all our needs and wants.

I want that!!! Come LORD Jesus!

Have a great day!
