Glow over Gold

Whenever Moses would meet with God, his face would shine so bright; the people were afraid.  Have you heard the statement about a person where their smile “lights up a room?”  Or sometimes I’ve heard of a woman on her wedding day having a “glow” on her face. I imagine it might happen when a person wins a lottery too.  I haven’t experienced that one! These are all short term “glows”.

I’ve had people come to me at certain occasions and ask me what’s going on because I have such a “glow”.  Unlike Moses, it’s not a literal glow but I’ve never realized I had a “glow.”  It’s others that recognize it.  These are times when something completely wonderful has happened, or I’m having a great encounter with God showing me something or revealing how much he loves me or me reciprocating God’s love by loving others.  Sometimes it leaves me with an incredible sense of worth and value in God’s eyes on my inside!!!  What is on the inside is seen by others on the outside.  So why am I not always seeming to have a “glow?”  I would suggest, it’s when I’m distracted by the world’s distractions.

I’m writing this on Sunday morning, the last day of the winter Olympics,  just before the start of the final men’s hockey game where Canada or the USA will win the gold medal.  Am I distracted?  Yes, a little.  However, by choice, I am not going to look at anything relating to the game until I’ve finished writing.  I do want Canada to win because of my Canadian pride.  However, on the scale of importance, it pales when compared to spending time alone and writing about my time with “I AM.”

In our Isaiah reading today, God says, through Isaiah the prophet; “I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides me. Who is like Me?  (I ask you, can an Olympic medal for Canada even come close to this?)

In our Mark reading today,  the religious leaders have let the distraction of traditional rules to protect God’s laws, come between them and God. Sometimes our distractions can “appear” good and to bring value.  As an example, I’ve been trying to regularly read through the Bible for years.  Some years, I’ve been successful.  However, this is the first year in my entire life, when reading the Bible is for the purpose of learning more about God and sharing it with others.  All past years, it’s just been to read the Bible in a year to check it off my to-do list.  The difference is subtle but this year is way more awesome!!!

If some of you who are reading my blog quit reading my blog because you want to read the Bible and learn things for yourself that are not tainted by my stories or thoughts, I’d be thrilled.  I am thrilled you’re reading my blog and would love for that to continue, but not if it becomes a distraction from you personally spending time with God.

I’d love to hear from you.  If you have an opinion or would like to contact me, you can leave a comment or email me at steve.d.pauls@gmail.com.  I’ve also added the ability to subscribe to my blog to receive an email each day.  The link is down below.

Have a great day!

Steve

P.S.  Too bad Canada did not win.  They have a silver and a goal to get gold next time!  Sigh’
