Day 37 "I AM" right here Month 2 Week 6 Day 2

Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year) links to readings at the bottom

Exodus 3 - 4:13

Psalm 33

Isaiah 30:1-17

Matthew 24:1-28

"I AM" right here!

1. Moses meets with God at the burning bush.  I think most of us can imagine the scene.  Going about our daily duties in our job and suddenly, we see some fire.  We look closer and the fire that we are seeing is a bush that is fully engulfed in flames but it’s not burning and if you’re in a building, there are no smoke detectors going off because if nothing is burning, there’s not likely any smoke.  We go closer to see this unusual sight and the bush starts talking to us in a God voice.  It may be a quiet voice but my imagination says it’s a bassy radio voice that brings kind of a rumble.  The bush says remove your shoes, this is holy ground!

The voice says that it’s God and gives Moses a mandate to go to Pharaoh and to bring God’s people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.  Moses asks, “who am I that God would ask me?”  Then Moses asks God,  “Now they may say to me, what is His name?”  (If your brain is anything like mine, you're saying, I thought God is his name).

I love how God responds!  “I AM WHO I AM” and say, “I AM has sent me to you.”  Not only is it His name but it’s His description.  He is always I AM.  He is I AM at the beginning. He is I AM for Moses at the burning bush. He is I AM in Jesus’ day.  In John 8:58, Jesus refers to Himself as “before Abraham was born, I AM”. Today, God is still I AM.

I AM is always, everywhere, present!  If this is true (I believe it is), then if we are not experiencing God’s presence, maybe there’s a barrier between us and God. Take a few minutes to let that resonate with you.  I AM is right here, now!

Moses, by the end of today’s reading, is hoping God will send someone else and he starts making excuses.  You may know how this turns out but that is for another day.

2. In our Matthew reading today, we read about the return of Jesus.  Now, many people have studied the Bible backwards and forwards to figure out when Jesus will return, and not one prediction has come true.  But, we are given signs to watch for:

Jesus says:

  • many will come in His name saying they are Him

  • nation will rise against nation

  • kingdom against kingdom

  • There will be famines

  • There will be earthquakes

  • Many will fall away and betray one another

  • Many false prophets will arise

  • Because of lawlessness, most people’s love will grow cold

  • The gospel of His Kingdom will be preached throughout the world

Can you imagine a time in this world when all of these things may be happening?  Is it possible that all are happening as I write this?

Jesus goes on to explain what happens next and to be really ready.  He talks about the Abomination of Desolation but we will talk about that when we read the book of Daniel…if Jesus does not return first.

My point is, I AM wants you!  He’s calling you.  Time is shorter than you think.  Partner with Him in loving our neighbours.  Choose to say yes to Him and His purpose for you rather than asking Him to choose someone else.

So today, Love Jesus, Love each other.  He asks for nothing more.

Steve
