Carrying it Alone - Day 47 Month 2-16 Week 7 Day 5

Today's Reading (Bible in 1 year) Exodus 17,18 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2017%2C18&version=NASB1995 Isaiah 37:1-20 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2037%3A1-20&version=NASB1995 Matthew 28 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2028&version=NASB1995 Carrying it Alone I tend to try to do things myself.  Very simply, I feel I am more efficient when I have determined how to do the next project.  This happens often when we are doing renovations, and we do a lot of renovating.  So, I get to it.  Meanwhile, Sylvia is standing there asking if she can help.  I usually say no, because I’m either almost done with that task or in the middle  of a task trying to figure something out and don’t know how she can help.  I carry all these burdens on my shoulders and then wonder why I’m burned out and stressed.  When I do slow down and fill  Sylvia in on where my mind is on a task, she help...

Open to Provision - Day 46 Month 2-15 Week 7 Day 4

Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year)  Exodus 15:22-16:36 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2015%3A22%20-%2016%3A36&version=NASB1995 Psalm 39 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2039&version=NASB1995 Isaiah 36 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2036&version=NASB1995 Matthew 27:57-66 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2027%3A57-66&version=NASB1995 Open to Provision 1. Are we having chicken again? Why can’t we have fries tonight? I know it’s carbs, but I like fries. Oh, you’ve pulled out the string beans—can we have peas tonight? I know they have a higher sugar content, but we’ve had beans four times this week. You know, my favorite meal is prime rib with a baked potato topped with sour cream, real bacon bits, chives, and cheddar. I guess we need to settle for the pork roast that is on sale this week. That’s me, a little exaggerated though!  I grumble when we have the same thing to eat more than on...

Barrier Broken Forever - Day 45, Month 2 Week 7 Day 3

Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year)  Exodus 14:13-15:21 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2014%3A13-15%3A21&version=NASB1995 Psalm 38 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2038&version=NASB1995 Isaiah 35 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2035&version=NASB1995 Matthew 27:27-56 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2027%3A27-56&version=NASB1995 Barrier Broken Forever “Truly this was the Son of God!”  These were the words of the centurion and those with him standing by as Jesus died.  At the moment of Jesus’ death: the veil of the temple was torn in half from top to bottom, the earth shook, rocks split, tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had passed away were raised. It’s not hard to believe that some people witnessing these circumstances suddenly believed that Jesus was the Son of God.  The people at the cross believed in Jesus but He had not yet risen from the dead! ...

Grumbling after Grace - Day 44 Month 2 Week 7 Day 2

Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year)  Exodus 12:42-14:12 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2012%3A42%20-%2014%3A12&version=NASB1995 Isaiah 34 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2034&version=NASB1995 Matthew 27:1-26 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matthew%2027%3A1-26&version=NASB1995 Grumbling after Grace God leads the people by cloud during the day and pillar of fire during the night.  God tells Moses that Pharaoh’s heart will again be hardened.  Pharaoh changes his mind and wants his slaves back so chases after them and almost catches up.  The Israelites grumble and complain to Moses saying, “didn’t we tell you to leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians?" The Israelites received a great deliverance and God had shown Himself to His chosen people in so many ways.  They walked out of Egypt taking articles of silver and gold given to them by their Egyptian neighbours.  God revealed His continue...

Redemption after Tears - Day 43 Month 2 Week 7 Day 1

Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year)  Exodus 12:1-41 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2012%3A1-41&version=NASB1995 Psalm 37 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2037&version=NASB1995 Matthew 26:57-75 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2026%3A57-75&version=NASB1995 Redemption after Tears “There was a cry throughout Egypt.”  Imagine an entire country where every home sees the death of their oldest child.  The sorrow and grief they feel is deep.  No one can comfort each other because they are all experiencing the same grief at the same time.  The best they could do is grieve together.  My mother passed away on November 16, 2025.  When people came to meet us and bring comfort to my grieving family, I suspect everyone present had experienced the passing of a loved one and most were able to bring comfort to us.   When the sons of Israel and their families were leaving Egypt I’m sure some o...

Losing it Happens - Day 42 Month 2 Week 6 Day 7

Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year)  Exodus 10,11 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2010%2C11&version=NASB1995 Isaiah 33 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2033&version=NASB1995 Matthew 26:36-56 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2026%3A36%20-%2056&version=NASB1995 “Losing It” Happens Moses knew God had a plan to let His people go, and he knew that Pharaoh’s heart would be hard. God told Moses He would bring one more plague and said, “When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out from here completely.” Up until now, Moses had told Pharaoh that the people needed to go into the wilderness to worship God, but now Pharaoh would drive them out completely. At the end of this final exchange with Pharaoh, the conversation was clearly heated, and Moses left Pharaoh in “hot anger.” I find this encouraging. Even when you are doing what God is asking you to do, even Godly people can lose it. Moses would not see Pharaoh again, a...

God in Storms - Day 41 Month 2 Week 6 Day 6

Today's reading Exodus 9:8-35 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=exodus%209%3A8-35&version=NASB1995 Psalm 36 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2036&version=NASB1995 Isaiah 32 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2032&version=NASB1995 Matthew 26:14-35 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2026%3A14-35&version=NASB1995 God in Storms My thoughts in the last number of posts have led us to the two greatest commandments that Jesus gives us: love the Lord your God, and love your neighbour as yourself. So what happens when life is tough and, more than anything, you need a loving God to put His arm around you? In our reading in Exodus, we are told about the plague of hail. We know that Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and because of that, God continued to bring plagues on Egypt. Sometimes, though, our hearts are not hard, or we do not realize that our hearts have become hard, or Satan is allowed to bring hardship even when we...

No Deals Needed - Day 40 Month 2 Week 6 Day 5

Image
Today’s reading (Bible in 1 year)   links to reading at bottom of page Exodus 8-9:7 Psalm 35 Matthew 25:31-26:13 No Deals Needed God brings all kinds of signs and plagues upon Egypt, but God hardens Pharaoh’s heart so he won’t free the Israelites. Pharaoh makes promises, but changes his mind each time a plague is stopped. While Scripture tells us that God hardens Pharaoh’s heart, we need to recognize that Pharaoh’s heart is already hard. He is already treating the sons of Israel as slaves and has no regard for God. It’s such an easy trap. When we are in crisis, we often pull out all the stops. Sometimes we even try to make a deal with God. I know I have. “LORD, if You’ll just allow … then I’ll …”“LORD, please get me a new truck … then I’ll …” Be careful when you make a deal with God. Don’t be the deal-maker! God does not want us to make deals. God simply wants you . I’m not saying, “LORD, please get me a new truck… then I’ll….” I’m simply asking for a new truck while staying focuse...
