Day 6

Today’s reading Day 6

Genesis 10,11
Psalms 6
Isaiah 5:1-17
Matthew 5:21-end of 5
Thoughts for the day
1-in Isaiah 5:1-3, the profit speaks to the people in a parable where God has likened his people to a vineyard that he has planted in all the best ways. Then God says to judge between him and his vineyard when the vineyard has provided very poor grapes. He then goes on to say that he will take the hedge away from his vineyard so they might learn. It seems God will provide good ways for people but he won’t force them to do His will and if they don’t, he will allow things to happen that are not the best for his people. Notice he’s allowing it, not doing it.
2-in Matthew 5 starting at verse 21, we start to learn how Gods kingdom is not based on rules but heart. He starts with murder as an example, the law says don’t murder but Jesus says your heart (anger towards your brother) makes you guilty, he uses the example of adultery where he points out that it’s not just the act but it’s the heart (lust) which is the problem.
3- in Matthew 5:45, Jesus points out that God causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good and the rain to fall on the righteous and non righteous. In other words good things happen to bad and good people and so do bad things. Just know that in the good and bad God can be with you if you ask.

Comments

  1. Gen.9 records that our inherited sin nature did not die with the flood but carried through with Noah's family. Gen.11- I think of the power a world of people having one language and speech- power had to do great things if those motivations came from God and not from our own agendas. Alas, our sin nature will always situate ourselves to think of personal gain, and not things sacrificially benefitting the world at large. I thank God For Jesus who gives us a new heart of servitude. I can see evidence of this in many events over the course of history to now where people are coming together for common good, even with language and other barriers.
Ps.6: this psalm along with many others is encouraging in that we can cry out to God anytime for any reason and He hears us.
Is.5:1-17: God provided Shem's descendants, one of whom is Jacob, aka Israel, aka the deceiver, with everything needed to live righteous, but they did their own thing. We have no right to be angry at God when we reject Him and live however we self-centeredly want to, after He has provided everything we need to live right before Him.
Mat.5:21-48. All these sins like murder, adultery, not respecting marriage or keeping your word, all begin in the heart. Doing good or saying good only for our own accolades, or purposes are noted by God, and does not impress Him. Truth, in the end, is always eventually revealed -we maybe able to fool ourselves and others, but we can't fake it with God. This means we need to be perfect like Him. Houston-we now have a problem. Solution: Jesus.

  2. Thank you Syl. It's cool how God says different and additional things to different people. I am thrilled about the solution for all sin is Jesus.
