Day 20 - Week 3 Day 6 The Rock

Today's reading (Bible in 1 Year) - If you have not read my introduction or blog from the beginning, I felt a strong motivation to read the whole Bible in a year and discover something new each day to share.

Genesis 30:25 - end of 30
Psalm 18
Isaiah 17
Matthew 13:44 - end of 13

Thought for the day

We have rocks!  We live on a rocky shore and our whole property is full of rocks.  You can't dig down more than 6" anywhere on our property and not find a rock.  It's very frustrating when you're trying to dig a garden or plant a tree.  Interesting though, they shift.  Every spring, my mower finds new rock locations.  During the winter freeze and thaw and freeze and thaw and freeze and thaw (that's how it is here), the rocks in the ground shift again and again.

There is one rock on our property that does not shift!  At the shore we have a lava rock outcropping.  It's goes out about 20 ft and and at high tide, you can touch the water from it.  The rocks on shore all shift but this one rock, stays!!

My days are like the rocks that shift.  The following are some examples.  I'm trying to renovate my workshop right now.  I plan to work on levelling the floor (it's off by like 3 " in 4') but end up insulating a wall.  We make plans to do something fun, the rain comes and we cancel the fun plan.  I go to the kitchen to make crepes and end up cooking bacon.  Sometimes the rocks come in the form of disagreement with others and there needs to be some forgiveness.  What I'm saying is Rocks take many forms and usually throw us off our plan.

The important rock though is my lava rock.  I can take a lawn chair and just sit on the rock and watch the ocean roar!!

God is my lava rock.  In Psalm 18 verses 1-3 David says "I love You, O LORD, my strength.  The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.  I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies"  Then in vs 46 he says "The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of my salvation"

It's amazing that God is our ROCK and The LORD LIVES!!!!!  You can rely on Him!  How many people can you 100% rely on?  I have reliable friends but 100%?  That's pushing it.  I know I'm not 100% with friends!

There are times when I fail.  That's why the reading in Isaiah 17:10 says today, "For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not remembered the rock of your refuge"  Those are the tough days.  When I have forgotten, I might argue with my wife and am a littler rough around the edges with other folks.

Make Jesus your rock today!!!!  He's 100% reliable.

Steve
