The Word in Human Form - Day 124 Month 5-4 Week 18-5
Today's Reading (Bible in 1 year)
Deuteronomy 4:39-5:33, Psalm 101, Jeremiah 15:1-14, John 1:1-34
The Word in Human Form
I love reading the first chapter of John.
Verse 1: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God”
Verse 2: “He was in the beginning with God”
Verse 4: “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men”
Verse 14: “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory as the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Who is the Word?
When did He come into existence?
Why did He become human?
Did He really bring life?
The Truth about Jesus 101
The Word is a person and that person is Jesus. Jesus did not start in Bethlehem, He was there in the beginning and He is God, “I AM.” Jesus became human because God loved us that much. John 1:12 says “as many as received Him, He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name…” Unfortunately, most did not recognize it was actually God in their presence. As Verse 5 states “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
Trinity
I’m not going to try to explain the Trinity today, because quite honestly, I’ve never heard a description that really explains it. Many, many educated scholars over hundreds of years couldn’t so I guess I may be in good company. Our finite minds can’t truly understand it. However, the Trinity is God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit and they are one God. The first verse of John states that Jesus, the Word, was with God and was God. If you believe the Bible is true, then you can’t deny the Trinity. We’ll learn more about the Holy Spirit towards the end of John and into Acts.
Isn’t the Bible the Word of God?
It’s up to debate whether the Bible is the Word of God or contains the Word of God and it’s not definitive, though the conservative view believes the Bible IS the Word of God, the liberal view believes the Bible CONTAINS the word of God and the Neo-Orthodox view believes the Bible BECOMES the word of God. Jesus existed before the written text of the Bible but the Bible’s words are divinely inspired or “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; (2 Timothy 3:16,17).” This means the Bible teaches what is required. The Bible is not a history book though it contains history but it provides everything a person requires to understand our need for Jesus.
John states Jesus' purpose on earth in this first chapter. It explains Jesus' claim of being “I AM”, because he is “I AM.” Jesus took human form to enable us to stand before God who loves us. The only thing we need to do is believe in His Name and receive Him or accept His gift of life.
Have a great day!
