Infinite yet Intimate

God is God of the details.  We are reading the details of the tabernacle construction in Exodus.  We are seeing the specific directions God is giving Moses, right down to the method of joining the acacia wood, the makeup of the curtains with their loops and clasps to join them.  He is very specific.  If you wonder if God cares about the details of your life, all you need to do is read His instructions for the building of His tabernacle.

Two examples: He knows that you just stubbed your toe (if you happened to stub your toe….and He knows what you said when you did) and he knows why Jake the dog was staring me down 10 minutes ago when I know he’s had his meds, he’s been fed and I took him for a walk.  God knows!

We continue to see the greatness of God in Isaiah 40.  The words “Do you not know? Have you not heard?”appears twice to remind us of how big God is.  “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers….it is He who reduces rulers to nothing.”  and then “see who created these stars, the One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them by name…”  And then, He’s the Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

Are you struggling today?  Did you get in a fight with your spouse?  Are the kids driving you crazy?  Did you get bad news?  Are you grieving?  Isaiah 40:31 suggests a response to those troubles.  Wait on the LORD.    “Those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.”

I was approached by a coworker last Saturday  (I am officially retired but I do work at the hardware store every second Saturday).  The coworker wondered if I was bothered because my hours had been reduced (It’s been a very slow winter in the industry) and did not realize I had been the one to request reduced hours.  My response was very simple.  “Quite honestly, I am finding writing this blog to be far more fulfilling and I feel that the blog is my vocation (though unpaid) at this time.”  I continued,  “I am learning so much and God is becoming even more real to me than He has been in the past.”  I explained that “from a financial perspective, I can look back and see where God provided again and again when I was in need.  I have finally realized that if I am doing what God wants me to do, the provision will arrive to maintain the calling.”  The coworker, being a Jesus follower, understood what I was saying.  I followed all that up with a statement that I would love to know what God is going to do about my need for a truck because he has not filled that need to this point.  The response from the coworker was, “He’ll look after that need too!”  It’s hard to wait sometimes but I am willing to wait and see God’s plan for the truck too.  I do know God cares about even that detail.

In our Mark reading, the religious leaders are once again challenging Jesus and say that Jesus casts out demons through Satan.  Jesus makes a lot of sense explaining a kingdom divided against itself can not stand.  And then uses an illustration of plundering the property of a strong man’s house.  To plunder, the strong man needs to be tied up to steal from.  In other words, he’s telling us that evil is very present in this world and there is a constant battle going on.  But there is a good ending.  Satan will not always have free reign and entrance to God’s kingdom is available for the whole human race.

Today, we’ve understood how big and great God is. He's interested in the details and He knows’ we have spiritual battles.  Isn’t it great to know that God is interested in me and YOU!  According to Jesus, “whoever does the will of God” is His brother, sister and mother.  We can all be part of God’s family.

Have a great day

Steve
