Day 7

Today’s reading day 7

Genesis 12,13
Psalms 7
Isaiah 5:18-end of 5
Matthew 6:1-24
Thoughts for the day-so much today but I’ll pick out several
1-Abram,in Genesis 13 had God with him but was so fearful that he told Sarai to lie and say she was his sister (technically she was but a partial lie is still a lie). I’ve got to say, that fear was a real weakness that Abram had yet God used him anyway. That is comforting to know God can use us for His glory even in our weakness.
2-remember us talking about how God cares about the law but the heart is where the law is broken. Well the people of Judah had become evil! He says a lot of “Woe to those’s” in our Isaiah reading, pointing out some of the ways evil is done by them. Notice they are all things that start in the heart and then manifest themselves. Verse 24 says they have rejected the law and despised God. The action happens because of a heart for wickedness. I find I need to watch my heart. A couple of days ago when I was at work, a coworker, who is not a Jesus follower pointed out something I had said to a customer. It was at that point I realized that my heart was not right and that I had lied, even though I technically did not (recognize this from thought 1?). I had to admit I was wrong to the coworker, and it required some confession to God.
3-I love the “sermon on the mount”, and there is so much to be said. In the forst part of Matthew 6, I think it can be said that we should practise our faith in humility. Whether it is giving to the poor, praying, fasting (a healthy spiritual practice by the way) and simply being forgiving. In this social media culture it is expected that you will promote yourself when you are being charitable because it will make you look good I suppose. But no, we are told to do it quietly and to be forgiving. In vs 4 when your giving is secret, God will reward you, and vs 20 store up your treasures in heaven. Then the section is finished up with “no one can serve 2 masters”. Think about who the 2 masters are in your life.
Maybe finish by reading aloud Matthew 6:9-13. If it’s from your heart God will be listening.
If you’re reading this the day I wrote it, it’s January 1, 2026. What a great day to start it off by reading Matthew 6:9- 13 out loud.
And HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
