Day 12 - Week 2 Day 5

 Todays reading

Genesis 21:9 - End of 22
Psalms 11
Isaiah 10:1-19
Matthew 9:9-end of 9

Thoughts for the day - We've read so many good things today.  I can't possibly discuss everything!

  1. In Genesis 22, Abraham is told by God to go to a mountain in the land of Moriah to sacrifice his only son Isaac.  The question I have here is; if God is going to make a great nation through Abraham's son Isaac, how can God tell Abraham to sacrifice that son.  I'm sure it simply came down to obedience.  Abraham knew God's intent for Isaac so Abraham must have known it was a test.  I am certain that when Isaac asked Abraham about where would the lamb come from for the sacrifice in vs 7, Abraham's response of "God will provide..." in vs 8 was in confidence that he knew it was a test.  Well, I think by the time Isaac was on the alter and Abraham was raising the knife, both Isaac and Abraham were starting to question God yet Abraham was prepared to do it.  Imagine the grief in both of their hearts and I'm sure Isaac could not believe his father would do this.  Think about a time when God may have asked something of you that did not seem reasonable.  What was your response?  Did you complete the test?
  2. After point 1, Psalm 11 has David speaking in time of crisis and finding refuge in the Lord.  He points out that "The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked".  Abraham and David were both tested.  Then we find that the wicked are eventually judged and the ultimate justice is served.  Notice, it's eventually ultimate justice.  Those who are wicked will not necessarily be judged while we look on.
  3. Have you been judged for the company you've kept?  I have!  Jesus was dining with tax collectors and sinners!  Imagine what that looks like in that day.  All these religious people watching Jesus hang out with people who weren't religious.  Well, don't get me started on the religious.  What's important is Jesus responds to the religious with "It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick".  Jesus did not come for the religious, he came for the lost.  Now, I could hang out with people from church all day long but if I am being a Jesus follower, I believe that church is for regrouping and our real ministry is to bring healing to the lost.  Verses 37 and 38 tells us what God is calling us for.  We should be workers sent out into God's harvest.

Comments

  1. Sometimes we ask for more faith but our motivation is for God to provide us faith so that our God will confirm to our wants, or make us a god. I'm thankful for God's grace at 70x7.
