Thoughts for the day

  1. Abram is now Abraham because from him will be a multitude of nations and Sarai is now Sarah.   The LORD appears before Abraham.  I am curious of what God looked like for Abraham to suddenly realize it was the LORD in front of him.  What's important is, he did!  The description though is 3 men and Abraham ran to them.  So, I have a question.  If the LORD appeared physically in front of me, first of all would I recognize him and second how would I respond?  I would hope yes to the first questions because I think I'd just know!!!  The second question, I would expect to be in awe and I'd probably say nothing, just kneel and cry with recognition of my sin and also joy because God came to see me.  Wow, as I sit here, I know The Holy Spirit lives in me.  The Holy Spirit is God so why don't I have the same awe as if God was standing physically in front of me?  I need to ponder this because the responses should match I think.
  2. From Genesis 18:20-33 The LORD says that in Sodom and Gomorrah, their sin is exceedingly grave.  Abraham pleads for the righteous of the city and says suppose there are 50 righteous, will you destroy the righteous with the wicked all the way down to "suppose ten are found there?" And God says he won't destroy it for 10 righteous.  Notice Abraham's heart was right.  This is where we come face to face with God's judgement and Love.  Only Lot, his wife and 2 daughters were saved, and of course his wife looked back, when they were told not to look back, and turned in to a pillar of salt.  God did save the righteous, because of his love for Abraham but still judged the city's of Sodom and Gomorrah.
  3. In Genesis 19, the 2 angels visit Sodom, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house because they wanted relations with the 2 men (angels).  I have a real problem with Lot saying no but offering his 2 daughters and "do to them whatever you like".  All I can say is thankfully the angels intervened and pray that I would not be Lot if ever confronted in such a way.
  4. There are lots of things to consider in Matthew 8.  I choose to talk about the great storm in the sea from Matthew 8:23-27.  A huge storm comes up while they are crossing the sea and the boat was being covered in water.  JESUS IS SLEEPING!!!!  Think about that, if Jesus is in the boat, he's getting splashed with water and he's sleeping.  The disciples awaken him and he rebuked the winds and the sea.  He says"You of little faith" before he calms the water.  So what does this say to me?  If they had enough faith, they did not need to wake Jesus up.  They would have gotten through the storm however when our faith is not that strong, God has the power to still the storm.  We serve the one and only true God!!!  What an awesome God he is!!!!

Day 25 Week 4 Day 4 Green Pastures

Today's reading (Bible in 1 year) Genesis 36 Psalm 23 Isaiah 22:1-14 Matthew 17 Last evening, my wife, Sylvia, read a statement to me from a bishop in the Episcopalian church in New Hampshire.  He advised his Episcopal clergy to get their affairs and wills in order "because it may be that now is no longer the time for statements, but for us with our bodies to stand between the powers of this world and the most vulnerable".  Sometimes, peacemaking puts one in the place where death is a possibility in the protection of the most vulnerable.  It's an ominous thing to think about. Today we read Psalm 23.  What a powerful Psalm to read in it's fullness but hopefully you just read it and I'll simply mention verse 4 where it says " Even though I walk through the valley of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me " Did you hear that?   You are with me! Day 20 - Week 3 Day 6 The Rock

Today's reading (Bible in 1 Year) - If you have not read my introduction or blog from the beginning, I felt a strong motivation to read the whole Bible in a year and discover something new each day to share. Genesis 30:25 - end of 30 Psalm 18 Isaiah 17 Matthew 13:44 - end of 13 Thought for the day We have rocks!  We live on a rocky shore and our whole property is full of rocks.  You can't dig down more than 6" anywhere on our property and not find a rock.  It's very frustrating when you're trying to dig a garden or plant a tree.  Interesting though, they shift.  Every spring, my mower finds new rock locations.  During the winter freeze and thaw and freeze and thaw and freeze and thaw (that's how it is here), the rocks in the ground shift again and again.   There is one rock on our property that does not shift!  At the shore we have a lava rock outcropping.  It's goes out about 20 ft and and at high tide, you can touch the water from it. ...
